Elijah Hunter

Elijah Leroy Hunter III, 41, of Prince Frederick died May 30, 2013, at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick.

He was born July 15, 1971, in Prince Frederick to Elijah and Joan (Mackall) Hunter.

He fought a good fight, finished his course and moved from this home to his new home where his sickness was defeated. He was affectionately known as “Junior,” “Suk Suk,” “Soljah Boy,” “Black” and “Champ.” He attended the public schools of Calvert County, where he excelled and was known as No. 44 on the basketball court and football field. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1989 and was honorably discharged June 1995 after serving his country in the Gulf War. He later was employed as a contractor in Kosovo and then worked in Iraq, training Iraqi Nationals. After returning, he worked as a special police officer in the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. He joined Greater Mt. Zion Church in 2008. He had a great sense of humor. He loved laughter and everyone with whom he came in contact. He traveled the world and left his love everywhere he went. He was filled with care and concern for others and was willing to do what he could for anyone. People could not help from loving him even after he had spoken his mind. After a long courtship and the birth of one son, Jordan, he married his soulmate, Felisha Hawkins, in September 2004. He loved his dog, Major Hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Felisha Hunter; mother, Joan Mackall; father, Elijah Hunter Jr.; son, Jordan Hunter; father- and mother-in-law, Overton and Cynthia Hawkins; sisters-in-law, Shannon Hunter and LaShawn Anderson; brother-in-law, Christopher Jones; brothers, Miguel Hicks, Jermaine Hunter, Natawn Hunter and Renard Mackall; sisters, LaNita Hunter, Angel LaNita Hunter and Angel Jones; spiritual sisters, Ineva Wharton and Raini Haynes; aunts, Virgina Adams, Vivian Hicks, Gladys Holland, Elizabeth Hunter Barnett, Darlene Polk, Dorrine Rhoades, Helen Smith, Sandra Hunter and Mary Ellen Hunter; uncle, Carl Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
