Mary Cigarroa (Sharnhorst)

As I read the words in the "In Memory" section, my heart cried and my thoughts raced to many years ago and the memories rushed in.

Ken had lived a few miles from me while growing up. Each spring he would get jobs riding the horses that had been put out to pasture all winter. They were stubborn, fat, and usually resisted the procedure of being ridden again after such a long time. Ken would call me and we would go riding all day, and I had some of the best times of my life. Ken would protect me from the "too wild" ones, made sure I was always safe and really tried hard to not laugh at some of the mistakes and boo boo's I managed to show off to him.

We would take off early in the mornings and not be back until dark. A few years back, when I found his address in our alumni information, I sat down and wrote him a letter to just find out how his life had turned out. He sent me the most precious letter in response to mine. He had the love of children and a wife. He was enjoying his passion for horses and living the life he wanted. What a beautiful thing....to pursue your dreams and attain them. I felt like an old friend had honored me again. He remembered the fun "old" times too. I'm very blessed to have been a very small part of his life. I will miss him.
