A tocuhing memory of our youth: I was probably the last shy guy in 1959 to want to go to the Senior Prom, but I did not have the "courage" to ask someone to go with me. As the date drew near, I asked Arelne (Siegal) if she would go to the Prom. She said "YES".
Little did I realize she had broken up with her boyfriend a week before the Prom.
At the Prom, there he was, her boyfriend of many years, bedecked in a great looking tuxedo. His date was not from Hope. About one hour after we all arrived, Arelne and her boyfriend made up and delcared their "true love" for one another. Yup---there I was, with a date that went back to her boyfriend! Out of her decency or maybe pity for Me. Mel (that would be me), she stayed with me and she and I and another couple went out for food after the Prom, and we wound up at Arelne's house where we stayed awake until the sun came up, and then I went home. She did give me a goodbye kiss which was great!
May she Rest in Peace and may our memories of Arelne always be there .
