No Karime they are not stopping Saturday delivery and yes it is a bad thing. If the Post Office were successful in stopping Saturday delivery it would mean a loss of 100,000 jobs nationwide and none of them would be management positions, these would all be "bule collar" part time people who already spend decades making full time. The bigger picture that is not in the news is termination of Saturday delivery besides the jobs lost would be closing of small offices and eventually small town people would have to drive an hour to their local office. This may not seem like a big deal to some but I have many people that walk, take a bus, or catch a ride to my office and what if it is your disabled parent or grandparent that needs to mail something. No business in America'a history has ever recovered from reducing service hours. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of $ that were shelled out to postal management in bonuses this year. Did you know that Jack Potter (Postmaster General) made over $900,000 in pay incentives this year and all of headquarters (approximately 50 managers) were all six figure bonus people.
A small time Postmaster such as Coldwater makes $80,000 in base salary plus incentives and there is one manager for every 12 employees nationwide. Sounds like you would have supported AIG and all of the other "bailout" businesses that gave their corporate people our money in bonuses. So yes, closing of Saturday is a bad thing and remember what I have said the next time you hear about a rate increase on first class stamps. By the way, I heard there are already 277 co-sponsors in Congress against Saturday closing. This effects so many people in so many ways and the general public needs a better understanding before taking a side on this issue.
