I joined the Navy along with Karen Bingen. We were both stationed in San Diego. We were both on the WAVES Rifle team and competed with Army, Navy and Marines. We both qualified for our Rifle Expert medal. I was also on the WAVES varsity bowling team. After serving 3 years with an Honorable discharge, I worked at the general Navy library for 14 years at the Naval Training Center (now it is called Liberty Station), and get this, the barracks I lived in is now a VON's grocery store!! I'm working at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego and have served all my years working for the Navy in San Diego. The research center will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary this month. Hope to retire in a few years. Been to London, Hong Kong, Isle of Man, Scotland. Drove by myself in a 1966 Ford Fairlaine from CA to WI and back when gas cost an average of $.34 a gallon in 1968. A great experience! Best part about that trip, I was surrounded by a herd of cattle and cowhands in Colorado right in the middle of the highway. It was so cool! Cows were mooing and bumping into my car.

I was active in GAA and that was the best part of school for me, along with being on the bowling team with a great group of gals. Now I bowl on Club Pogo.com. I miss Gerry Jorgenson. She was so nice to me, and my best friend. I was one of her bridemaids when she got married in Chicago after she graduated from college. I still have the college sweatshirt she gave me. Jean Herwig was also a great friend, I miss her also. Karen is living in Idaho with her husband. Bet you didn't know that I worked at the A & W Hamburger Stand near Park after I graduated. That was a fun job for the summer. Another fun job was working at the Frontier Drive-In in San Diego.
