In Memory

Emily Jo Barnett (Williamson)

From Emily Jo's daughter the day before Jo died:

I am writing to inform you of my mother's courageous decision to enter hospice care. EJ was the epitome of a fighter, but wise enough to know when to stay down for the count. Communication is difficult at this time, but I can report that she is happy to be in the loving care of the incredible doctors, nurses, staff, and voluteers of the Angela Hospice Care Center. If you wish to visit, please do so; however she is not able to speak by phone at this time.

She told me this morning that she has so much to say to people, but couldn't manage much more than that. I'd like to think I know what she meant by that, so if you'll allow me the liberty, I'll do my best to share what she meant by that. So here goes...

She wants you to know that she's comfortable with her decision to die and that she is not afraid.

She wants you to know that you made such a difference in her life, and she is so grateful to have shared time and space with you.

She wants you to know that she loves you. Unconditionally. Absolutely. Multiplied by infinity, plus one.

Finally, she wants you to know how much she appreciates the love and support you've shown her through her "excellent adventure."

On a personal note, I want all of you to know how much I appreciate you. Each of you enriched her life in different ways and I am grateful for you loving her. My mother is an amazing, funny, smart, and complex woman and I am honored to be able to be with her during this transitional period.
