Missions

The Community Presbyterian Church Mission Team provides leadership for our church family in manifesting God's love as shown in the life of Jesus by identifying and responding to special needs in and beyond Redmond through work parties, special projects, and our on-going commitments of time, talent, financial support, compassion, prayer and faithful service to God.

Projects supported by Community Presbyterian Church:

Adopt-A-School Program

Mission supports children in need in the Redmond School District  through the Family Access Network.  Our Shoes for Kids Program provided shoes for children who otherwise would have gone without.  Our Mission Team and Children's Ministries jointly hosted a "Shoes for Kids Drive" in March that brought in 229 pairs of shoes and purchased 64 additional pairs of shoes.   Not only did Mission support Shoes for Kids, but also purchased ear buds for the Chrome Books Math Program at Vern Patrick Elementary School.
Partnership with the Kisauni Parish in Kenya
In 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding was created between the Sessions of the Kisauni Parish, Presbyterian Church of East Africa of Mombasa, Kenya, and the Community Presbyterian Church, Cascades Presbytery of Redmond, Oregon.

In the spirit of Jesus' last instruction to his disciples [Acts 1:6-8], the mission is to build a sustainable church-to-church relationship as described in "...Doing Missions in a Changing Cultural and Political Setting." [presented by Rev. Kamau Thairu M., keynote speaker of the Kenya Mission Network Conference, February 2018]. CPC representatives to this past conference were Rev. Irv Nygren, Rev. Don Shaw, and Elder Linda Jackson-Shaw.  Click here for the Presbyterian Mission News

For more information regarding CPC's partnership with the Kisauni Parish, please contact Rev. Shaw or Elders Jackson-Shaw or Rocky Johnson through the church office.  The partnership is based on the guiding principles of the Kenya Mission Network: kenyanetwork.org/Kenya_Network/Welcome.html

Currently, CPC contributes to two of Kisauni Parish's projects:

Feeding Children Project

Five days per week, more than 350 school children receive breakfast and lunch, as a ministry of the Kisauni Parish.  CPC's portion is obtained through the proceeds from the annual church parking lot sale, individual contributions, and a stipend from CPC's Mission Team.

Women's Hygiene Project

The Women's Guild of the Kisauni Parish provides hygiene products to girls and women in Mombasa's community, orphanages, and hospice centers.  Without these products, young women and girls would not be able to attend school.  CPC's portion is collected from individual contributions, proceeds from the annual church parking lot sale, CPC's women's groups, along with funds from CPC's Mission Team.

In the most recent correspondence from Francis Muiru, the P.C.E.A. of Kisauni, he expressed gratitude on behalf of the parish for CPC's continued support both materially and by continually keeping them in our prayers.  They are currently planning a large church project to purchase plots for their newest church, P.C.E.A Mishomoroni.
