2021 Garmisch Updates

Garmisch - from Carole

AUG 6, 2021 UPDATE:

My son and I flew back to the States 3 weeks ago, returning to Germany yesterday, and travel was virtually painless!  Yes, we had to wear our masks in the airports and on the planes, and we were asked for our vaccination cards, but beyond that, there was nothing to worry about.

If  you have any questions about travel or the reunion next month in Garmisch, please get in touch!  I have the current list of non-DOD ID Card holders and will get that to the Pass & ID folks at Garmisch next week; if you have not sent that to me, you'll find the form on the Garmisch Reunion Page (see the left side menu) and can forward that to me (the sooner the better) to ensure you'll have access.

The 2021 Rhein Main Reunion at Garmisch-Partenkirchen

is ON!

Admittedly, 2020 was a terrible year, with COVID-19 taking its toll on many of us in so many different ways.  The good news is that 2021 seems to shaping up better than it's predecessor!  Europe is opening its borders more each week, and Germany has finally opened it's borders to travellers from many countries, including the US.  We're hoping that means you'll make plans to join us in Garmisch-Partenkirchen September 23 - 26 at the beautiful Edelweiss Lodge.  At last check, there were more than 20 people hanging in there and planning to attend.

We've made a few adjustments due to a lot of uncertainty over the past six or 7 months -- Oktoberfest has been cancelled, but we've heard that some of the smaller villages in the Garmisch region will host their own Oktoberfest, and if they do -- we'll find a way to get there!  Instead of planning a group tour, we'll let everyone decide where they'd like to go (but we hope we'll get a good group for some tours, as it's so much more fun with a bunch of people!)  Now that the borders are open again, a quick side trip to Salzburg is a definite possibility; or maybe a closer tour to Linderhof is more your cup of tea?  I'll be posting more information about the different tours available to us during the reunion.

To make the reunion a bit more affordable, instead of paying the high catering prices at the Edelweiss Lodge (you gotta love the place, but the food is very expensive), we'll adjourn to one of the local restaurants for our traditional dinner on Saturday evening.  It will be a lovely meal, punctuated by great stories, lots of laughs, and another chance to spend time with old friends and new from our days at Rhein Main in this beautiful Bavarian setting.

So, I hope you'll be there to celebrate another year of the wonderful things that we experienced as part of Team Rhein Main!  Please get in touch if you have any questions -- please note I have a new email address:  carolelail6@gmail.com.  I'm looking forward to seeing you this September!

Wir treffen uns im September im schonen!

Germany has opened its borders to US travellers, so don't wait to make your reservations for this wonderful celebration of great times at Rhein Main Air Base!

Rooms at the lovely Edelweiss Lodge in Garmisch are still available, so book one (or more!) today.

Although Oktoberfest in Munich has been cancelled again this year due to COVID-19, there are still plenty of great places to see and things to do -- you definitely won't be bored!

Stay tuned for more updates as September approaches!

Our 2021 Reunion Host  "CAROLE"  was recently in Garmisch-Partenkirchen doing a site survey.

This was a rough job, but someone had to do it :)
Drinking German Wine and Beer, plus all that food that has to be tested, to make sure its good for us :)

Seriously, Carole was in Garmisch checking out all the sites and and attractions for our upcoming
