Coach Fahey was able to lead many teams over the years to squadron championships in basketball and softball. He eventually coached at a base level and won championships in the Mediterranean and European theaters, as well as an Air Force championship. Coach Fahey was recognized as one of the most respectable basketball coaches; he was selected to the coaching staff of the Strategic Air Command Europe team, Air Force Mediterranean team and the All Air Force team. He coached many outstanding players — one being the only military player invited to the 1984 Olympic Team tryouts.
During his military career he was awarded many medals; specifically, the Air Force Commendation medal and the Air Force Achievement medal. He was qualified as a weapons expert, attended Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership Academy, the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and was qualified as an Air Force training instructor.
