John Connell Munson, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, Jan. 13., at the age of 68. Since childhood, the family affectionately called him "Buddy" He was born October 24, 1951 in Laurel, Mississippi. The family moved from Laurel and settled in Texas in 1957. He attended Richardson schools through high school, and after high school, he worked for Texas Instruments in the geophysical division on oil exploration boats, which took him to many areas of North and South America. He then obtained a degree in mechanical engineering from SMU. He worked in this field in both industrial and medical areas for the remainder of his career, and held several patents for medical devices. He retired from St. Jude Medical in 2012. John was an outdoorsman, adventurous, and had many interests. He enjoyed boating and fishing, especially during the time he lived near the Gulf of Mexico in Lake Jackson. He was an avid cook, and mastered the art of cooking a great Texas BBQ, which he served up to many friends and family over the years. One of his greatest loves was riding his Harley. He enjoyed the freedom of the road, and took many road trips, exploring throughout Texas and the US. He will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man with a big heart who was dependable and loyal to family and friends. "He is loved forever, and we thank God for the time we had with him. He will be greatly missed!" John is survived by his mother, Leatrice Landry Munson; sister, Lisa Munson Brooks; nephews Benjamin Brooks and Cody Brooks; niece, Roseanne Brooks; he is also survived by his former spouse, Marta Munson and step-daughter, Elise McConnell.He is preceded in death by his father, John Connell Munson, Sr., and nephew, Jonathan Luke Brooks.He will be laid to rest beside his father in the Abbey at Restland in Dallas, TX. Service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 1/28/20 at 11 am. 5231 Meadowcreek Dr, Dallas, TX 75248.
