Buzzy Wright was my friend growing up, in high school and college.  After that we drifted apart as it’s so easy to do when you’re living your own life and circumstance doesn’t bring you into contact.  Even so I have many fond memories of Buzzy.  We both grew up on the same street and lived about one block from each other.  We both had ponderous names that were perfect for getting teased about.  We played little league baseball on the same team, Glen Allen III, which Buzzy’s Dad coached.  Buzzy was one of several boys from our neighborhood who went to Hermitage including Andy Hromyak, Bill Cheeley, Randy Jones,  Robbie Kelly, Andrew Cage, Gary Cage and, I’m sure, others I don’t presently recall.   We all ran around together and did things boys of that era liked to do.  We hunted and fished and built tree houses and played tackle football in the front yard.  Buzzy went to Hampden Sidney College where he was known as Elvin and was a member of a fraternity there, Theta Chi, I think or possibly Chi Phi.  However, in his senior year Buzzy won the lottery and left school to join the Air Force -- his birthday, September 14, had come up #1 in the 1970 draft lottery.  I pretty much lost touch with him after that and did not know of his passing until I read it here.  Too sad; I would have like to have met him again and to talk about old times.  RIP Buzzy.  You were a good guy and I’m sorry I missed seeing you again.
