Apoloino Frank Mares Jr., 60, died April 29 of cancer at his Riverside home. Born in Riverside, Mr. Mares was a lifelong resident.  He was a state civil service employee for 31 years, including in the maintenance department as a painter at the California Institution for Men in Chino 21 years until he reired in 2002.

Mr. Mares served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1964.

He graduated from Ramona High School in Riverside in 1960.  Mr. Mares was parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine Catholic Church in Riverside.
