In Memory

Jeff Jones

Jeff passed away before we graduated high school. We are not sure of the details or the dates at this time and will not speculate here. If anyone would like to share more information about Jeff, it will be appreciated.

Jeff Jones, in fact never attended Cave Spring High but instead was a sophomore at Patrick Henry when his life ended way too early. Jeff was killed by a train while jumping from one car to the other which ended in tragedy for his family. I attended Mt. Vernon Elementary with Jeff and sadly his sister Joanne is the only surviving member of their family. I hear that she is living in the family house with her daughter up on Bent Mountain. Their father Conrad Jones outlived his wife and he too passed away a few years back.

I always smile when I think about Jeff, as it brings back memories of the crazy fun times we had together.  I'll never forget when a bunch of us went riding the dirt roads near Jeff's house one night, in the back of Michael Gorias black F250 pick-up truck.  Flying down the roads, yelling "bootleg" at the top of our lungs, such that Michael would randomly stomp the brakes sending all of us in the back crashing into the trucks cab laughing hysterically.  Or the time at the Bent Mtn Fiddlers Convention, when Jeff was working parking cars, and upon seeing Sharla Kytta (sp?) he lept off the hood of the car he was "guiding" and went running towards her in what seemed like slow motion, yelling "Sharla".  They collided in a giant hug, crashing down into the grass, rolling in each others arms, in the most joyous display of friendship I've ever seen.  I'll always remember Jeff as a happy, hilariously fun loving guy that's made my life better for having known him.  Even in his death, his enthusiasm for adventure will shine brightly in my heart!
