Jeffery Beckner - Class Of 1976 VIEW PROFILE

Jeffrey Willis Beckner, 57, of Troutville, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Odell Beckner.  Jeffrey was employed by the Roanoke City Fire EMS Department achieving the level of Deputy Chief of Operations before retiring in September of 2014 with 30 years of service.  He was currently serving as the Chief of Botetourt County Fire EMS.  

His life outside of the Fire Department was at many times “larger than life”. Jeff loved projects of any kind; no challenge was too big for him to accomplish.  He was that rare individual who led by example and was a hero to so many people. His love and devotion to family and friends knew no limits. As a husband, father, son and brother, Jeff was always the one that everyone looked to for a solution or comfort.  

He is survived by his wife; Julie Humbert Beckner, mother; Orissia Huffman Beckner, children; Zach Beckner and Kara Beckner, brother; James Odell Beckner II and wife Fran Figari; sisters, Judy Beckner Dickinson and husband Bill Dickinson, Joan Beckner Kerr and husband Bob Kerr; mother and father-in-law, Betty Humbert Brubaker and Herman Brubaker; brother-in-law, William Humbert; nieces, Jodie Andriotty, and Camille Humbert; and nephews; Brad Beckner, Brian Beckner, Rob Patterson, Alan Patterson, Bob Kerr II, and Chris Kerr.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 515 3rd Street SW, Roanoke with a procession to Sherwood Memorial Park to follow.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Oakey’s East Chapel, 5188 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
