Kay S. Roberts

Kay Simon Roberts, 53, of Mount Crawford, passed on to her heavenly home, May 22, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born, April 22, 1959 to Robert and Jo Ann Jones Simon in Roanoke, VA. She grew up around Roanoke and was baptized at Peter's Creek Church of the Brethren. She graduated from Northside High School in 1977. She also attended Summerdean Church of the Brethren, where she married James "Jim" Roberts, of Mount Crawford, on July 25, 1977.They built a home on his family's farm in Mount Crawford, where they spent their married life, raising two daughters, Ashley Williams and husband, Brandon, of Grottoes and Cassey Roberts, of Bridgewater. Kay worked for Belk 27 years and spent the last seven years at Summit Community Bank.She was outgoing and fun-loving, making many friends along the way. She always enjoyed a good laugh, even in the last days of her life. Her smile, warm hug, and big laugh will be missed by her many friends and family. Along with her parents, husband and daughters, Kay also leaves behind one sister, Alta Davis and husband, Lowell, of Elkton, and a special aunt, Debbie Kavitz and husband, Jack, of Salem, VA. Kay also leaves a large, loving extended family that share many good memories. This family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Friday evening, May 25, 2012 at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A celebration of Kay??s life will be at 2pm, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at St. James United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley, with Pastor Dan Bassett officiating. Interment will follow at St. Jacob's cemetery After the services, everyone is invited to join for food and fellowship at St. James United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hahn Cancer Center, 2008 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
