-- ROCK HILL - Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Hayes Amick, 78, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Hospice and Community Care.

The burial will be 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Grandview Memorial Park, Cherry Road in Rock Hill. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Amick will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. John Pruitt, Tai Magette, Daniel Smoak and Dr. Mark Verdery officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the ministry center at the church.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Amick was the daughter of the late Ira Steele Hayes and Phonnie Brewer Hayes. She was married to the late William A. Amick Jr. She attended Winthrop College, where she attained a BA in Sociology in 1954 and a MA in History in 1970. Mrs Amick was retired from Rock Hill High School, where she taught Advanced Placement History, was chairman of the Social Studies Dept. and was Teacher Of The Year in 1987. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she lovingly served as choir member, Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, moderator of diaconte, clerk of Session, coordinator for Interfaith Hospitality Network and representative to the Centenial Celebration of the Jesus Hospital in Seoul, South Korea. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Club, York County Mental Health Assoc. Board of Directors, Women's Club of Rock Hill, Outlook Club, York Co. Historical Society, Rock Hill Music Club, and lifetime and loyal fan of the Clemson Tigers.

Mrs. Amick is survived by her daughter, Deborah Amick Faulkenberry and her husband, Malcolm; son, William A. "Trey" Amick and his wife, Trudy, all of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Kelly Brooke Nies and husband Rob, T.J. Comer, M. Hayes Faulkenberry, William "Billy" Johnston and wife, Christy, Stacy Russell and husband, Chad, and Travis Johnston; great-grandchildren, Coleman and William Nies, Sidney, Gage and Lane Russell, Will, Cole, and Logan Grace Johnston.
