ROCK HILL - Mrs. Mary Louise Bowen Rhinehart, 72, of 716 Rhinehart Street, died December 4, 1995, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

Funeral is 3 p.m. Friday at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Rock Hill with the REv. Walter B. White officiating. Burial will be in Barber Memorial Cemetery.

She was born July 11, 1923 in York County, a daughter of the late Prince William and Daisy Know Bowen.

She was educated at Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill and Benedict College in Columbia, SC. She did further study at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC and received her Master's Degree from Winthrop University in Rock Hill. She taught in the Greenville, York, and Rock Hill School Districts until her retirement.

At an early age she joined Gold Hill Baptist Church in York where she was an active member until her marriage to James E. Rhinehart in August 1950. At that time she joined Nazareth Baptist Church. Later she joined Mt. Prospect Baptist Church. She remained there until her physical handicap hindered her attendance and she then joined Flint Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rhinehart lived a rich and active life, she served in may capacities including Sunday School teacher, President of the Missionary Society, Deaconess, Board of Christian Education, Vacation Bible School teacher and Youth Director. Some of her religious affiliations including being an Executive Board member of the Women's Baptist E&M convention of South Carolina for more than ten years and an appointed committee member who compiled and published "The Black Baptist Women of South Carolina (1888-1988)"

She was also affiliated with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Daughters of Light Number 151 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and national, state and local education associations.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Rhinehart of Rock Hill; brothers, Lamar Bowens of Rock Hill, and John Franklin Bowens of San Francisco, CA; and sister, Cecellia B. Lindsay of Everett, WA.

The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. today at Flint Hill Baptist Church and other times at the home.
