HOLBOROW, Koreen "Kory" Rae-Went to be with the Lord Jesus on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the age of 31 years, five months, and 23 days. Kory was born November 30, 1971 in Roseburg, Oregon, the youngest child of Doug and Ellen Dupee. She was received into the family of God through the rite of Baptism shortly after her birth. Kory confessed her faith in God through the rite of Confirmation in Saint Paul Lutheran Church in 1984. She attended public schools in Roseburg and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1990. She was a graduate of UCC and Western Oregon University and earned her teaching credentials through Eastern Oregon University. Kory taught English at Roseburg High for her entire career and was at various times the advisor to the cheerleaders and the Key Club. At the time of her death, she had just completed the process of application for National Teacher Accreditation. Kory was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Chris Holborow of Roseburg in 1994. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Madison, age six and Sydney, age three. Kory loved her two girls as well as her extended "family" in the many students she was blessed to teach at Roseburg High School. She spent time every night singing and reading to her two daughters. Kory was a very creative and artistic person who loved scrapbooking, music, crafts, and decorating. Kory delighted to spend time with her family and loved animals and rooting for the Green Bay Packers. She was a lifelong member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Roseburg and was currently serving on the building committee. The family wishes to thank the EMT's and the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital Emergency Room for their heroic efforts to save Kory's life. Kory is preceded in death by her sister, Kim. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband; two daughters; her parents; her brother, Kevin and Lorie Dupee; her nieces, Nikki Dupee; Amanda Hulbert and nephew, Spencer Hulbert; her grandfather, George Schmieder; her father and mother in law, Bill and Dianne Holborow; her brother in law, Daniel and Khara Holborow; and countless friends, family members and students. Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church and School on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Kory will be buried at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in a private committal service immediately following the service. The family requests memorial gifts to be given to the Kory Holborow memorial fund at Saint Paul Lutheran Church and School.

Holborow, 31, collapsed on May 22 and was rushed to Roseburg's Mercy Medical Center where she died of undetermined causes. The married mother of two had been suffering from fibromyalgia, a condition that affects 4 million Americans, causing chronic pain and fatigue. Its cause is unknown.

Kory Holborow suffered a fibromyalgic episode shortly before her death and reacted badly to new medication she had been prescribed, but it was nothing that her family perceived as potentially fatal, her husband said. Then, upon returning home with his daughters on May 22, he found her unconscious and called 911.

Emergency medical technicians were able to resuscitate her, and when she was taken to the hospital things were looking up. The relief was only temporary, her husband said, as it became clear she had suffered a major trauma. Physicians speculated an aneurysm might have been responsible, but evidence was unclear.
