Michael O. Netland, age 64 of Lonsdale passed away peacefully after a short illness. Michael was born in Wilmar MN January 19th, 1952. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Rosemount high school in 1970. After high school he attended Inver Hills Community College where he played basketball and baseball. In 1972 he welcomed his first son Sean Michael. He married the love of his life Jeanne in 1978 and still often referred to her as his girlfriend. Later on that year they welcomed Erik Nicholaus into the family. In 1981 the family was completed with the birth of Courtney Jo. Michael had a love for sports and was very active with both coaching and playing. He spent many weeknights and weekends playing shortstop in the local softball league. He proudly coached boys basketball in the Montgomery-Lonsdale school district for a number of years. Guitar playing was a passion he shared with his son Erik and was always willing to entertain anybody who would listen. Michael was a dedicated employee of Seneca Foods in Montgomery where he made many life long friendships. He was proud of the work he did for them over his 30 year career. Making people laugh was one of Michael's greatest gifts, and his smile would light up any room. Above all else, his biggest delight in life were his grandchildren.

One of Michael's many quotes was "I've never been sick a day in my life". That was true right up until May 27, 2016 when he was diagnosed with stage Colon Cancer which took his life just 12 short days later. We ask that you all follow the doctors recommended guidelines in preventative services as it may have saved his life.

Survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; children, Sean (Natascha), Erik (Gina), and Courtney (Dan) Myers; beloved grandchildren, Sebastian, Addison, Wren, and Quincy; siblings, Greg Netland and Barbara Frank; in-laws, Bill Hottel and Teri Talbert; also by other loving relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Monday, June 13, 2016 at White Funeral Home (Hwy 19) Lonsdale. Visitation one hour prior to the service.
