Richard Orchard tragicly died on December 12th 1978 at the young age of 21. (Cause of death was sucide from a 22 calibar gunshot wound to the head due to severe depression).
Rick was like a brother to me. He was my next door neighbor and my best friend since I was 3 yrs old. He was always shy and quiet with many people. Being a childhood "Tomboy" in my pre teen years, Rick and I hunted and went skeet shooting with my dad. Rick even went hunting with my dad when I didn't until my dad passed away in 1974. Our childhood was filled with adventures of fishing, building go-carts and forts, and racing model cars at Jack and Jill Raceway and shooting pool. At the young ages of 7 through 10, we also "co-piloted" flying in small airplanes with his dad, whos hobby was flying, until his dad passed away in 1967. Our friendship and connection as "family" is one I will never forget. He will always be my First Friend and Best Friend. My thoughts and prayers are with him everyday always.
Ricky was my best friend before his father died in a plane crash. I remember the day the princple came into our fourth grade class to tell him this dad died. We're remained close friends until his untimely death. Still think about him everyday.
