Classmate Hysell Cleve "H.C." Young, Jr., died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at 9 a.m.  He was at Duke Regional on December 19th battling pneumonia and undergoing and waiting test results for some other health issues. They found he had Hodgkin Lymphoma and non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver so he was moved over the weekend to Duke Hospital for further test and treatments.  Sadly he passed on December 26th.  Condolences may be sent to the family at 1525 Olive Branch Rd., Roxboro NC  27574.

Hysell Cleve (H.C.) Young, Jr., age 73 died on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Born in Person County, he was the son to the late Hysell Cleve Young, Sr. and Myrtle Mae Lowery Young.

Mr. Young was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church- where he was served as Deacon, Usher, Youth Pastor and was the Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. H.C worked in the textile industry for many years having retired from P&A and Collins & Aikman. He was selected as Textile Citizen of the Year by Collins & Aikman in 1997. Always willing to lend a hand, H.C. was a volunteer fireman for Triple Spring VFD and a first responder for Person County Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his sisters: Katie Weaver (Larry), Peggy Porterfield and Linda Young; one brother, Carl Young (Rachel) of Mebane, NC; two nephews, Allen Weaver (Tori) and Paul Weaver; and four great-nieces, Noelani Weaver, Ailina Weaver, Halia Weaver, and Makala Weaver.

Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Olive Branch Baptist Church with the Reverends Norman Talley, Mike Riley, and John Pritchard officiating. Burial will be held following the service in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will take place on 6-7:30 PM Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Allen Weaver, Paul Weaver, Mark Lowery, Ray Long, Ronnie Adcock, Emory Young, Timmy Lowery, Donnie Terrell, Ira Young and Fred Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Triple Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Person County Rescue Squad and the Brooks & White Staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to Olive Branch Baptist Church, 7588 Dirgie Mine Road, Roxboro, NC 27574 or the Triple Springs Volunteer Fire Department, 185 Olive Branch Rd, Roxboro, NC 27574.
