Obituary RAY CHARLES “POOCHIE” GENTRY, age 64, of 1247 Buck Street Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. Mr. Gentry was born February 22, 1959 in Person County, NC, and raised on Kitten Hill USA, son of the late Roy Thomas & Mary Sue Walker Gentry and husband of Doris Hicks Gentry. He was retired from EMLEX Construction Company and worked in the construction field for 44 years, and was a member of Oak Grove Church of Roxboro. Ray was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time on his farm, and gardening. He loved his family, friends, and he loved the Lord. Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Wiley Gentry & wife, Betty, sister, Debra Gentry Garrett, brothers-in-law, C.T. Hicks & wife, Carolyn, Charles Hicks & wife, Barbara, sister-in-law, Julia Hicks Poole, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry is preceded in death by a sister, Warsenia Gentry McKinney. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at Oak Grove Church of Roxboro with the Rev. Johnny Ray Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests from 12:30 till 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. Pallbearers will be Ed Beal, Johnny Gentry, Paith Gentry, Chase McKinney, Hunter McKinney, and Kennan Solomon.
