Class Advisor Daune Weiss

WEISS, DAUNE MARIE (LANGESTAFF) Gaylord Age 53, Gaylord community leader and owner of the Gaylord Holiday Inn, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, in Gaylord. She was born July 29, 1947 in Newberry, MI. She is survived by 3 sons, Christopher (Sarah) of Boulder, CO; Peter of East Lansing and Andrew, a student at Lake Superior State University in Saulte Ste. Marie, MI; grandson Jacoby. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kirsten, in 1975. Also surviving is her fiance, Robert Palm-bos of Gaylord; sister, Lori Lang-estaff of Rudyard; brothers, Peter Langestaff of Fibre and Ernest Lang-estalf of Moran in Upper Peninsula. A graduate of Northern Michigan University, she taught English and Sociology in St. Ignace and Rudyard schools. She served on the development boards for both Northern Michigan University and Lake Superior State University and was nominated earlier this year to fill the next vacant position on Lake Superior State's board of trustees. She was recently elected to the North Country Bank board of directors. She moved to Gaylord in 1985 and became owner of the Holiday Inn. An active civic leader, she has been involved in numerous organizations and last July, received the coveted Buergermeister Award, an honor given to the "Citizen of the Year" by the Gaylord Herald Times. She was also selected Alpenfest Parade Marshal in 1995. A public memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2000, at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord. Visitation will be at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, MI, on Friday, from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Gaylord Holiday inn Wish Tree or the Daune Weiss Memorial Fund through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N. Center, Gaylord, MI 49735. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Moran, MI.
