Roy Worthley

Roy Andrew Worthley, known as Sunny by his family, was born January 31st, 1936 in Hollis, Oklahoma. At the age of 16 Roy felt the call to preach and was ordained in October 1952 at Phillips memorial Baptist Church in Big Springs, Texas.  It was later that year that Roy and his family moved to Rupert, Idaho.  At age 17 he was instrumental in starting 2 churches in the Rupert area.  It was here that Roy met his wife, Vivien  McMillon and they were married January 16th, 1954.  They immediately left for Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona.  After 2 years they packed up and left for Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  There Roy graduated in 1959, receiving his BA degree in Theology and History.  In 1961 he attended Southwest Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  Roy's ministry spanned 52 years and he served in churches throughout Idaho, Arizona, Texas, Oklahome, utah, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Missouri.  During his ministry he was also licensed as a Restricted Radiothelephone operator in 1960  He became a pilot in 1965 and received his commercial license in 1966.  He served as a bush pilot, flying medical missions to Mexico and Columbia, for Wings for Christ from 1966-1968.  Like Paul making his tents, Roy also became a successful business owner of Cottonwood Sheet Metal, from 1969-1976.  In Cottonwood, Roy attended Northern Arizona University and got his teaching certificate.  He taught at the local high school in Cottonwood, teaching Wood Shop and History.  In 1979 Roy served as Voluntary Chaplain for the Navy and Coast Guard in Coos Bay Oregon.  He also, served 2 years working with the Korean ministry.  Roy retired from the ministry at the age of  68, after serving 21 years at West Craig Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Roy started and publised the Rovi News, Chronicles of a Barnyard Christian from 2010-2018.  This publication was shared, shared and shared , again, until it became global.  Roy went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 at home with his family.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Cleo Worthley and his father Roy Lee Worthley.  Roy is survived by his wife, Vivien of 65 years.  His children, Vicky and her husband Jerry, Roy, Jr., Carol, April and her husband Tommy, and his adopted son John Huckabee.  His grandchildren Richard and Melissa Vanderstelt, and his native American clan. the Benalli's.  His great granchildren, Natalie, Wesley and Brandon.  He is also, survived by his 3 sisters, Becky Morfin, Martha Bourbon, and Betty Oxford.
