Gary Jensen

Gary Lovoy Jensen, 71, of Soda Springs, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at his home.

He was born March 14,  1936, at Rupert, the son of Denzel and  Marco Elizabeth Gibson Jensen.  He married Doris Bernice Stapelman, June 4, 1957 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He was raised and educated in Rupert graduating from Rupert High School.  He also, attended Ricks College; He also, had lived in Clifton for 6 years; Thatcher for 1 1/2 years and Soday Springs since August of 1973.

Gary was a High Priest in the Soda Springs LDS 1st Ward.  He had served as Pres. of the Sunday School; Elders Presidency; Pres. of the Seventies; High Priest Group Leader; counselor in the bishopric; librarian and as teacher in the Sunday School and primary organizations.

He had served as a councilman for Clifton City and on the Caribou County Sheriffs Posse.

He enjoyed woodworking andf hunting.

He was a welder and a maintenance supervisor and public works director for the City of Soda springs, retiring in 1998 after 23 years.

Gary is survived by his wife Doris of Soda Springs; three sons and one daughter and their spouses; Scott and Gwyn Jensen, Helena, Mont.; Michael and Valerie jensen, Pocatello; Wade and Wendy jensen, Gillette, Wyo.' Tamera and Jeremy Smuin, Pocatello, and a daughter-in-law, Deb & Jerry Shurtleff, Pocatello. Also, surviving are 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters; John and Diane Jensen, Hyde Park, Utah; Barbara and Ferrell Hansen, Idaho Falls; Marlene and Brent Smith, Pocatello, and Gloria and Jim Crowther, Pocatello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kurt Jensen and a sister, Sandra Porter.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Soda Springs LDS 1st Ward with Bishop Greg Torgensen officiating.  Burial was in the Paul Cemetery at Paul on Sat. at 11 a.m.

Services were under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
