Eddie Felix Avalos

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 12, 2020) — Eddie Felix Avalos, 62, of Sacramento, died Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle while riding on a moped on 66th Avenue in Sacramento.

The man was on a 2008 Lancer Moped and was exiting a private driveway when he was struck by a driver in a 2005 Acura MDX. The collision took place about 7:20 p.m. on 66th Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Unfortunately, the driver was unable to avoid hitting the moped. The man was thrown off the moped, suffered major injuries and died at the hospital.

The 19-year-old Sacramento man driving the Acura stayed at the crash site. He reportedly tried to help the victim after the collision and cooperated with police before being released.

Police say drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor in the crash. The victim’s identity will be released once next of kin is notified.

Eddie was one of my best buddies in junior and high school.  He was just a fun guy to be around.  Most of the memories that I have about Eddie can't be posted here, but I will cherish them in my own heart and mind forever.  He was a beast on the golf course (I beat him once . . . and I bet he still thinks about that round), and the adventures we shared in his brown Maverick were epic.  God bless you brother.  Joe (Borovansky) Gomes.
