It is with great sadness that the Bullen-Wiggins family shares the death of Amanda Ruth Bullen, a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Amanda died at the stroke of midnight June 13, 2001. She was 43. For 12 years, Amanda challenged cancer with courage, integrity and a joy for living, utilizing both conventional and naturopathic medicine. Family and friends were at her side when she died. Her brother, Douglas Danel, said Amanda's passing was quiet and graceful. Amanda was born on April 8, 1958 in Sacramento and was raised there. She spent her life in California, living in Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Oakland and, most recently, the Berkeley home she shared with her husband and two children. Amanda was a creative person, an educator and a community activist. She also was a photographer who documented non-traditional working women in the 1970s as well as hundreds of special moments in the lives of her friends and family. Her determination to fight for causes she loved translated to the way she lived her life, especially in her final days. 'She tried to live for as long as she could,' said her daughter, Isabel Ruth Bullen-Wiggins. Amanda was also mother to Milo George Bullen-Wiggins. In addition, she is survived by her husband, Damien Wiggins of Berkeley; and her mother, Dorothy Bullen of Sacramento. Brothers include Russell Danel of Hayfork, Douglas Danel of Lafayette and Tod Bullen of New York City. Amanda had a unique and heartfelt relationship with her father, George W. Bullen, esq., who died in 1987

I'm just finding out about this today (9/29/2012) ... I'm shocked ... Amanda lived down the block from me and I've known her since elementary school ... RIP Amanda ...

I too am shocked to see this.  I lived within eye sight of the Bullen home; I've been searching online for old friends from the neighborhood for years (near Alice Birney Elementary school) and this is the first time I've seen this.  I last spoke with Amanda's brother Tod back around 2001, probably shortly before she passed away.  All this time I thought she was living in the Santa Cruz mountains.

I remember Amanda as part of the regular neighborhood crew, a bit on the shy, quiet side compared to some of the other girls.  That didn't make her any less memorable.  I'm glad to see she left an indelible mark on those close to her.  RIP.
