For Dad,

First I would like to send my warm and humble thanks to all of my father’s classmates and friends who took the time to write such kind words about him on the reunion pageMy mother, Laura Rose , shared some of those with me and it brought much healing in a time of anguish, confusion, and lossPops (as we lovingly called him), recalled many great memories of his high school days throughout his lifeThose of you that were close to David were always held in the highest regards in his storiesHe truly loved his friendsThat was probably the most wonderful quality of my Dad…He never “judged a book by its cover”.  He loved all of the fun things in life and had a wonderful sense of humorHis kindness and warm heart were what people remember most about himThat was never more evident than in the days after his passing.  Everyone I talked to or read about talked about those wonderful qualities he possessedIf we take anything from my Dad’s life I would hope his generosity, lovingness, and genuine good will towards anyone would be in the forefrontI carry his memory with me every day and his wonderful spirit lives on in myself and my familyAgain, thank you for all of the kind words and thank you for listening to these words.

Now in the true spirit of David Rose , I know he would want all of you to put some music on and party the night awayHere’s to Poppa Rose!!

I'm saddened to learn of Dave's passing. Ironically I was recently thinking of him when we were friends in the summer of 1967 or 1968. His girlfriend at the time, Linda Brown and I would meet Dave at his house and hang out and/or go to the amphitheatre in Land Park and hang out. I remember the kool posters he had on his bedroom wall. One was a print by H. Bosch. I saw it again in a college art history class in 2002 - and, of course, it reminded me of Dave and that special summer we were friends. He was a great and authentic (or as the kids would say these days, 'real') human being. I thought he was one of the best people around then and now. Rest in peace Dave.

I knew David all through high school...to me, he was the ultimate "Rock Star" but his personality was so sweet, which was kind of a surprize yet comforting. My heart felt wishes go to his family...just know that he now "rocks on, forever!" RIP sweet David.

Dave and I were life long friends. I have a lifetime of things I can share about Dave, but the story I'm sharing about Dave is the Dave we all loved.
It was Thanksgiving weekend 1999. Dave's son Justin was getting married the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Dave didn't expect anybody but family to come all the way from Sacramento to Waldport Oregon for the wedding. Jon Merker his wife Leslie and I decided to surprise him. We drove Thanksgiving day through wind and rain, but when Dave opened the door the look on his face was worth the trip.
At the wedding, Dave stood next to Justin in his tux and white tennis shoes, classic Dave. Everybody was saying,"Why the white shoes?" At the reception, Dave's toast to Justin and his bride,"Things in life can get serious, so never lose your sense of humor".
Jon, Leslie and I made the trip to Oregon this past April to celebrate Dave's life with his family and friends. To honor Dave, Jon and I wore white tennis shoes.
Rest in peace my friend,
Steve

I was both shocked and saddened to hear about Davids death. We visited when I lived in New Mexico and while we both lived in Oregon. I saw him about a year ago at the Newport Aquarium where he worked. I knew about his heart condition and his recent operations but thought he was on the mend. He had lost a lot of weight and I don't believe anyone would have recognized him. Laura and I were amazed at the change. We had a long lunch and a great visit. He was still playing music on the side and was as happy and friendly as ever. I went to see him in June at the Aquarium and was told of his passing. I knew David well and he will be missed.

Hello Class of '69 and friends of David Rose. My name is Justin and I am Dave's son.

I want to thank all of you who shared such great memories of my father on his memorial page. I have read all of them and am truly humbled and touched. My dad was my hero and best friend and I miss him more than any of you can imagine. Your words have been very comforting and proof that the man that taught me how to love life, family and friends will live on through all of those close to him. I am really happy to have read so many great memories shared by some of his closest friends. Jon Merker and Stephen McIntire have been wonderful to me and my family and I can not begin to thank the both of them enough for all of their love and support.
I was fortunate to have spent a good portion of my life close to Dad in Oregon during his healthy years before he started getting sick. I know that his spirit will live on through friends and family but mostly through me. I will always love and cherish all of the wisdom he shared with me through out his life and his love for life. He was taken too soon but I know he will always live on in my heart. I love you Dad.

Thank you all again for proving to me that David Rose was a wonderful man, and soul. You can add a wonderful father to the list as well. Thank you.

Justin-David Ernest Rose.
Proud son of David Ernest Rose.

I have great memories of David. In the 60's, he sang in an "acid-rock" group called "Holy Smoke" that included my boyfriend at the time. I can remember endless rehearsals and gigs all over the Sacramento area. What I remember the most was David's sweet nature and even sweeter and soulful voice. God gave him an instrument and he played it well. I know he's belting it out in heaven.
My sincere condolences to his family.
