A kind and gentle soul passed our way. John died at his parent's home in Sacramento at the age of 60 on August 12th, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Sacramento, California where he attended McClatchy High School and was a member of the swim team. He worked for a number of years at Foremost Dairy and later moved to Idaho where he worked as a guide for the Flying B Ranch. He loved the out of doors, especially hunting and fishing, and eventually moved to his present home in Placerville, California. He lived in the middle of two acres of property and really enjoyed and appreciated nature. John has two daughters that he loved dearly, Shantelle and Kristy. Johnny, as he was known, had a kind heart. He was extremely gifted mechanically and often used these skills to help others. There probably is nothing he could not build, repair, or modify, if he chose to. He will be greatly missed by his mother and father, Dr. and Mrs. John E. Hines, who lovingly cared for him most recently. Johnny is survived by his daughters Shantelle Roth and husband Dan, Kristy Roscher and husband Hans, his grandchildren Joseph, Mya, and Nathaniel, his sister Cathie Crandell and brother in-law Paul of San Diego, niece's Kelly Epperson and Heidi Gillis and nephew's Chris Epperson and Sean Crandell. He is pre-deceased by his sister Kimberly Epperson who also lived in Placerville. At Johnny's request there will be no formal services.

I went through elementary, jr high and high school with John.  He was always a friendly and fun guy to be around.  We, along with his family, lost another good soul way too soon!

John and I attended school from elementary to graduation. I always will think of him as the kind soul he always was. I am happy to know he spent so much of his life in the surroundings that made him happy and that his family was with him to the end of this life. He will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered.
