Janna Bakhaus Heskett

After teaching for 2 years, I married and had 3 sons. My kids went to elementary school in Whitmore Lake. I gave a lot of piano lessons, served on the board of a coop preschool and was a home worker for a publishing company. We moved to South Lyon in '86 and my kids graduated from the same high school as Grandma & Grandpa Bakhaus. Most of my working life was as an administrative assistant in various departments at U of M. I currently live in Ann Arbor but am centered in South Lyon. I've been on the board of the South Lyon area Historical Society for over 15 years.

My parents went to heaven the week before and the week after Easter in 2012. in 2013, My initial Medicare exam showed liver cancer. By God's grace, my surgeon was able to take the tumor and pre-cancerous pancreas area and no chemo or radiation. I had a large weight loss and now feel great.My son and daughter-in-law took me in for my recovery for which I will be grateful forever. While recovering, I took some Bridge lessons and play often. I continue to work temp jobs in Ann Arbor for as long as I am able. The money comes in handy to pay the bills and I enjoy being with people.

I have been uplifted and encouraged by attending most of the TCWR retreats over the last 20+ years.

One spring afternoon while going between the buildings in 1966, I saw Mary Zell stand on Tom Stuwe's shoulders. She was doing pretty good until she fell and broke her wrist. Mary attended the Banquet with grace and aplomb, and her arm in a sling which matched her dress. Any thoughts about me pursuing a nursing career were were dashed.

I grew in faith, I learned, and was blessed by MLS. The connection will never be broken.
