Greg was always one of the nicest, sweetest guys a person could have the pleasure of being around.  We first met back in 6th grade...and he was one of the first kids  to welcome me into the whole Jan Rae Gardens world. I still occasionally have thoughts of Greg flash thru my mind...and will smile just thinking of some of the crazy things we talked about... I regret not spending more time with him...and,  I know I am not alone in saying I miss him.

I first met Greg in 3rd grade during a recess at Hayesville. Poor guy didn't put his lunch box away properly in the cafeteria and was carrying it around with him on the playground. I explained what the daily drill was for lunch box storage and as a bonus I made one of my best friends.

Greg was an awesome friend and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. We pretty much enjoyed the same things - playing countless hours of basketball, going to OSU and Blazers games, rock concerts, fishing..... His even-keeled personality made him so easy to get along with. I don't recall him ever getting mad at anyone nor anyone ever mad at him. He was just one of those people who got along with everyone.

While in 8th grade he was diagnosed with a very severe stage of leukemia. Despite a very dim prognosis, Greg fought valiantly in many ways toward remission for several years. In the age of long hair and people not understanding the affects of chemo like we do today, I was amazed at how well he weathered losing his hair and all the looks and stares of kids who didn't understand his situation. I spent a lot of time with him that year and never heard him complain at all. Greg enjoyed great health through high school and made the most of his high school years.

After high school Greg attended Chemeketa for awhile before his cancer returned. At one point in the hospital he boldly let his family know that he was going to heaven. Again, during this time, he never complained. He passed away on October 23, 1981.

I think of Greg often. I miss him and wonder sometimes what it would be like to know him now and what he would be up to. However, I do know that one day we will meet again.

-Terry
