Jennifer Elaine Helling
August 4, 1955 - July 10, 2011

Jennifer Helling, 55, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the Salina Regional Health Center.

Born Jennifer King on August 4, 1955, in Lyons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Evelyn King.

She moved to Salina in 1960. An accomplished singer, she attended Interlochen Academy for two years for voice and was in many musical productions at Central High, graduating in 1973.

After graduating from Kansas Wesleyan University, she taught high school English and Drama at Goodland and Karval, Colo., and was also a substitute teacher in the Salina School District and a member of P.E.O. Chapter BX.

In 1993, she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from Wichita State University. As an artist, in 2002, she was awarded a Horizon Grant from the Salina Arts and Humanities and had a solo show of her work at Kansas Wesleyan. She regularly showed her art at the Bluestem and Art XPressions Galleries, in Salina.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Brian Dwyer and wife Sunanta; and grandson, Benjamin, of Salina; a brother, Craig King and wife Brenda; and a nephew, Toby, of Salina; a cousin, Rodney Odom and wife Ellen, and their daughter, Jennifer, of Kansas City, Kan.

A celebration of Jennifer's life will be at 10 am. Friday, July 15, at Ryan Mortuary. Memorials in Jennifer's memory should be made to the American Diabetes Association.
