Robert Roy Owen (1952 - 2015)

1952-2015

Bob Owen passed away with courage and strength on December 19, 2015 after his 3rd battle with cancer surrounded by his family. He fought for us to the end.

Bob was born in Salt Lake City, the youngest of 8 children on August 20, 1952 to LeRoy Owen and LaVerne Annie Nielsen Owen. He was known as the "thoroughbred" in a yours, mine and ours family. He graduated from Granite High School class of 1970 and the University of Utah. Served in the Air Guard before leaving on a LDS mission to Michigan/Indiana and came back to marry the love of his life and best friend, Linda Lever, on September 27, 1974 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had 6 children. Their life revolved around their family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bob humbly served in many callings within the Church including Young Men's, Elders Quorum, High Priests, Primary, Bishopric and most recently as 2nd Counselor in the Stake Presidency.

Bob knew how to make everyone around him feel loved. He listened to what you had to say and somehow you felt better afterward. Bob was an amazing father. No matter when you called, he dropped everything to do whatever you needed. Bob made everything fun. He had the best sense of humor and loved a good joke. His love for the Savior Jesus Christ was shown every day in the life he led. Bob was skilled in many sports and coached some of his children's teams over the years. There wasn't a sunny day he didn't want to be out on the golf course. Maybe he will get that elusive hole in one now. He was a great teacher and spent many hours preparing his lessons and talks. He was a natural salesman. He loved his customers and they loved him in return.

He is survived by his children: Stephanie Owen, Summer (JD) Hooton, Sharilyn (Jason) Archuleta, Suzette (Spencer) Plott, Jason Owen, Starlene (Aaron) Rose; 12 grandchildren, he wanted so badly to be here for the birth of his 13th in January. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Dick Gehrke, and his wife's parents.

Friends may call at a viewing Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 6-8pm at the Rodeo Lane LDS Church, 6350 So Rodeo Lane (1540 E.). Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 12 pm at the SL Little Cottonwood Stake Center, 1160 E. Vine Street, with a viewing prior from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
