Gregory Lane VanDenBerghe passed away peacefully on May 3, 2018, surrounded by loved ones, due to complications from chronic illness.

Greg was born on February 18, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington; the eldest of Thomas and Lila VanDenBerghe’s 10 children. As a young boy, Greg grew to love mechanics, woodworking, bicycles, tennis and music. He taught himself to play the guitar, banjo, bass guitar, and piano. His love of music was a constant part of his life. He refused to let the rheumatoid arthritis that plagued him since childhood, or the resulting surgeries, stop him from enjoying the things he loved to do.

Greg served in the Netherlands Amsterdam LDS mission. Most recently, he enjoyed serving in the High Priest Group. After his mission, he married his high school sweetheart, Valorie Gaye Thompson. His proudest accomplishment and happiest times came from his grandchildren – Maia, Edison, Cullen, Poppy, Luke, Gabriela, Elizabeth, Finley, Sawyer, Tucker, Isla and Baby Neeley – who will all miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas VanDenBerghe, and is survived by his wife of 46 years, Valorie Gaye Thompson VanDenBerghe, his children: Tracy (Eduardo) Flores, Jacob (Elissa) VanDenBerghe, Anna (Paul) Leggett, Joseph (Vicki) VanDenBerghe, and Alison (Darren) Neeley, his mother, Lila VanDenBerghe and his nine siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Founders Park 1st Ward, 11428 S. Kestrel Rise Rd., South Jordan, UT, with a viewing to be held one hour prior. A viewing will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 6-8 p.m., Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 S. Jordan Parkway (10600 S), South Jordan, UT.
