Merlyn Boss VIEW PROFILE

Obituary

Jan. 27, 1952 - Dec. 9, 2017

Merlyn was born in Murray, Utah to A. Nathan Boss Sr. and Hazel Wayman Boss and grew up in a large family with many friends. He enjoyed playing sports as a younger man, watching them in his later years, with baseball being his favorite. After graduating from Granite High School in 1970, Merlyn went on to build a beautiful family, having 6 children (Ammon Cooper, Porter Jessop, Coriantumr Clyde, Theodore Wayman, Jackson Moroni, and Annie Jane) with his former wife Rosemary Jessop. His greatest love was always for his family.

Merlyn loved the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a veritable wealth of religious and historical facts. He had an extraordinary ability to remember scripture passages, historical dates, events, and names, even down to the line and page it was from.

He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his 13 grandchildren, whenever possible. He knew everyone’s birthday right off the top of his head. He was strong, smart, witty, and dependable, as well as a wonderful cook.

Merlyn was a man of integrity, called by his father-in-law a “straight arrow” and “a man you could trust.”

If Merlyn could be described in one word, it would be generous. He had a magical quality about him. If anyone was in need, he somehow found money to help them out. He never seemed to use this for himself, always for the benefit of others. If you have ever been the recipient of an unexplained financial windfall when you were in a time of need, Merlyn Boss was a very likely suspect. He made the care and welfare of his family and friends his highest priority. He truly lived his own advice when he said, “Get the love!”

He will be dearly missed by his beloved children, grandchildren, numerous siblings, and even more innumerable friends. Preceded in death by his parents, A. Nathan Sr. and Hazel Boss; his siblings, Hazel Ann, Julie Ann, A. Nathan Jr., David; and granddaughter, Marissa Ruth.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S.), South Jordan, Utah, with a graveside service being held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
