Obituary for Karen S. Balcom

Karen S. Balcom went to be with the Lord on September 27th of 2020 at the age of 71. Karen was born on February 15, 1949 to George S. Balcom and Marian Dyer Balcom in San Antonio, Texas.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, her uncle Albert C. Richards, her aunt Irma Baldwin, her cousin Virginia Hawkins, and friends JoAnn Gadberry, Glen Harmon, Julie Hallmark and Billie Grace Herring . She is survived by her husband James L. Garrison, and her many friends and colleagues.
Karen loved animals, especially cats of which she had many over the years. She rode horses as a youg girl earning several awards. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a BA, MBA, and finally a PhD. She worked as a faculty liberian at San Antonio College for 41 years, retiring as a full professor in 2014. She was a member of the American, Texas, and Bexar Library Associations. She loved the opera, especially Renee Fleming. She probably collected every CD Renee has ever recorded. Working at SAC she enjoyed helping students, teaching them the ins and outs of the library and how to go about writing their papers. She will be sorely missed by all her friends and colleagues

A memorial service will be postponed until a later date due to the pandenic. Her remains will be interred on October 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Mission Burial Park South. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers donations should be made to the FCM Geriatic Clinic at the following address:
