I remember enrolling into the eighth grade at El Camino Jr. High in Santa Maria after attending a parochial school for 7 years in Los Angeles. I remember Jemma was one of the cheerleaders. She was popular and gorgeous with a sweet loving persona. I am so saddened to read of her passing.
I was shocked to learn of Jemma's passing. I knew her and her family very well. Her dad and my dad were both plumbers and members of Union Local 114. Jemma also became a plumber. She will be missed.
I remember Jemma from Jr. High and she was nicknamed Boo Boo but I cannot remember her boyfriend's nickname. She was so cute and such a nice person. I had her in several business classes and she was an A student. If I recall, she missed a lot of school in high school because of migranes. I alos remember her smoking in the girls room! I know she is sadly missed.
Jemma was quite the trend setter...she ALWAYS looked beautiful and stylish. I used to like to listen to her speak because of the tone of her voice. I'm glad I was able to see her at one of the reunions so that my memory is warm. I've been leaving a flower for you, Jemma, at the memorial gardens when I visit my father -in-law.
Reading Dorothy's memories of Jemma flashed my mind back. Yes, Boo Boo was her nick name. When I first met the new girl Jemma, and saw how pretty she was I thought "Oh her name of Gem-a is just right for her. She is pretty like a precious stone." I did not know her name was spelled with a J at the time, nor had I ever heard of the name Jemma. Yes, we will remember you,Jemma the Boo Boo from Susansville.
The last time I saw Jemma she was at Waller Park (I think part of the 5 year reunion) and she was with Steven Caywood. Does anyong know what happened to Steve? I know he did not graduate but he was a "free spirit" and what one might call a biker. I know he and Jemma were very close back then. I'd like to contact him to learn more about Jemma's life after high school.
