I remember Leon as a kind hearted gentleman who could get kinda rowdy. During one of my trips back to S.M. I saw him for the first time after about 25 or 30 years. Still looked the same with his BIG smile. He was doing some landscaping for my Mom who at that time was still living in S.M. A couple of years later my mom called me to tell me that he had passed. I'm glad that I was able to talk with him, see his smile, and laugh at his jokes.

I am saddened to hear about Leon's passing. I first met Leon when we were neighbors in the area that used to be called Meyer Tract. Others who played with us were Steve Sasser, Tino, Vito and Jack Plaza, Sherry Hutchinson, Whitey Province and many others. We were about 8 or 9 years old (maybe younger) but we ran and played until the evening hours. Don't see much of that these days, I have to admit I miss 'em. I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to meet up with him before he passed. Thanks Leon for bringing back some great memories..........

Whenever I saw Leon at the city basketball programs for the children, he would run over with the friendliest greeting. He leaves behind such warm memories as this..

I remember Leon walking me throught the "tough" neighborhood just to keep me safe. Now that I think about it Meyer Park wasn't bad. He was concerned for me though.
My dad needed help with the outside of the house, can't remembe just what so he hired Leon as my brother was in Viet Nam at the time.
Yes, he had quite a smile. I wonder about each of those who passed and can't help wondering what happened. Life was just too short for some of us.

With wonderful thoughs Leon, Dorothy DesLauriers-Dickson

I remember Leon from P.E. classes, especially in my freshmen year. He always stood up for me when other guys (in P.E.) would try to pick fights with me. Leon covered my back and kept me out of trouble.

Thank you Leon................

Leon and I were pretty good friends. He used to eat with my family after football games and wrestling meets before we drove him home. I don't know if anyone reading this remembers, but Leon asked my dad if he could stand in as his father for the father/son night at halftime during one of our home games. The announcer introduced leon and then my dad as his, and then introduced me, and of course, my dad as my dad. I always kissed both my mom and dad when we met and I did that at that time. After the game a number of my friends tried to raz me about giving my dad a kiss. I told them I always had because I loved my dad. They'd always respond "That's pretty cool." Then they'd tell me they didn't know Leon and I were brothers. Cracked me up. Leon was a gentle bear. I miss the almost southern greeting when we'd meet- "Hey, Mauty." Every so often, when I say a few prayers for my parents (who are now gone too), I add some for Leon.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Leon's passing. I remember him as a caring and gentle person with a smile for everyone. I am sorry I did not have a chance to get to know him after high school. I will remember him in my prayers. I will also pray for his family.
