In Memory

Mike Schnetzler

Mike Schnetzler

I was given this information regarding our wonderful classmate:  Mike Schnetzler

Michael Lane Schnetzler passed away July 23rd, 2022. He had a double lung transplant back in November at Stanford and had been there ever since.  His brother, Rod, said he was a fighting tiger the whole time, up and down, fighting the battles of rejecting the transplant.  What ultimately, took him was a heart attack.

His brother Greg, predeceased him.  He is survived by his wife, Maureen, two daughters and 13 grandchildren. Mike and Maureen had lived in Fresno their entire marriage. He served in the US Air Force as a chaplain.

Mike will be buried at the Santa Nella memorial Cemetery.

So sad to read this news today . . . Mike was a close friend throughout our years at SMHS.  We were in the music programs, including A Cappella choir and Madrigals, and enjoyed many musical adventures together.  Had not seen or heard from him after graduation.  My condolences to Maureen and the family.

Mike was a wonderful person with a moral compass that I respected.  We were in madrigals together and he always had a beautiful smile and sincere heart.  I am saddened to hear of his passing and my prayer is that his family will find comfort in remembering what a geniune and loving person he was.

Oh Mike ...last I talked to him was before our 50th reuion. We chatted every 5 years or so, reuion time.  I wanted him to come and help sing for our reuion, a reuion of the Madrigals.  That is when he told me, no he could not attend, lung issues and he was associated with Stanford doctors.  He always talked about his two daughters, the number of grands and his loving wife and church work.  One upstanding righteous man was Mike.

Mike was a very positive person and an excellent vocalist.  I sang with him in both the A Capella choir and the Madrigals.  One of my favorite memories of him was when the Madrigals would dress up in 'Dicken's" costumes and sing Christmas songs at the various clubs and schools in Santa Maria. And then we went Christmas Caroling in a Santa Maria neighborhood one one cold December's Eve too.

Mike would sometimes have some featured part where he would step forward with his top hat on and that big bass voice would come of that small guy. No one thought twice about a tenor voice coming out of a short guy like me, but everyone was always shocked when he opened his mouth and that big, rich, bass voice came out of his mouth.

I totally lost connections with Mike after high-school but I will always remember his smiling face, his happy presence, and his big bass voice.  RIP my friend.

God blessed Mike with a voice to share, a heart to reach out as a chaplain to our service people, and a wife and family to love and enrich. What a wonderful legacy to leave on earth. What memories will remain in the hearts of many!

Blessings of peace and sympathy to all...rest in peace good and faithful servant.
