I met Ric our Freshman year running Track for the first time. We continued to race one another/train together until he got appendicitis just before senior year track season (which unfortunately ended his season and his chance to run his fastest times by far). Among our many hours together running, we completed a 17 mile interval workout on San Vcente (grass strip between 4th and 7th street), the longest of our preseason track workouts under Jack Farrell. Generally, we ran in different races (he the two mile while I ran the mile and half mile) during Track season but on the same team during Cross Country; together, along with a cluster of Seniors, we captured the Pioneer League Varsity Championship and took 7th place in the C.I.F. Finals our Junior year (November 1970). He was a great teammate, always pushing for more, and a good friend. He was my guest at the Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner along with Coach Tipre; we had a great night. He will be missed.
