Dan was one of my best friends, we played chess, correction he beat me at chess on a regular bases, he loved Longed hair music, no not The Bee Gees, ( Quoting from Mr Castanza, "not that there's any thing wrong with that") Shostakovich, Beethoven, etc... Spent some time with him, in the central coast in California when I lived in San Luis Obispo County in Morro Bay, Ca... I remember before starting out on cross country hitchhiking journey across Canada to Quebec, Newfoundland, he met me in Malibu ( Corral Cny, I believe) I was on a mountaintop looking at the sunset and he told me some interesting things and gave me a Green Bible, he looked different, his hair was cut, I kept that Bible with me on my travels, years later, after a fire had destroyed my reading material, after reading all the condiment labels, in my home, I opened that green Bible. I am Looking forward to hugging my dear friend again.
I think of Danny almost every day. We were friends since the 2nd grade at St. Clement's. He was a force of nature and his dropping out of St. Mo's in his Junior year reflected his chaotic home life with a dad that was very abusive. What is most sad, is his intellect and breadth of knowledge would have made college a snap for him. I played dozens of chess games with him and won only once. Although I knew a lot of classical music history, Danny opened my ears to pieces that intrigued him. The last time I saw him, he had major health issues and was waiting to get subsidized housing which he did get but then died shortly after in December of, I believe, 2013. Thank you Eloy for bringing back many sweet memories of our dear friend, Ed K.
