“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

Having lived for the last nine years in the Sacramento area and now returning to Sonoma County, I have been struck with the amazing beauty here. God’s workmanship is evident in every part of this amazing part of California, from the striking grandeur and beauty of Hood mountain to the roar of the pacific ocean at Duncan’s Landing. Everywhere I look I am in awe of His creation. But I am even more amazed at His incredible work at Rincon Valley Christian.

I have been greeted by a School Board of striking dedication and commitment who have weathered some very difficult times. The office staff is an outstanding talented group, all gifted in their roles, and incredibly dedicated to the mission of Rincon Valley Christian. And the faculty is amongst the most qualified and dedicated I have ever seen in my twenty five years in Christian education! They are truly committed to this school community and it’s future.

But as I consider the times we live in, it is clear that we are facing some of the greatest challenges the Church has seen in the history of the United States. All of us and our children and grandchildren are being bombarded with an anti-Christian worldview in every part of their lives. The secular culture is no longer neutral but is now hostile to Christianity. And for the first time in the history of this great nation Christian values are beginning called “hateful” and Christian moral values are being directly attacked in our public schools. Our rights under the Constitution of the United States are also under attack and our history is being revised to promote an ideological agenda by our federal and state governments.
In Ephesians 2:10 Paul tells us why we are here, “for good works, which God performed beforehand that we should walk in them.”  I can see the many ways in which God has placed His people in the right places to achieve his purposes. And I have witnessed the hand of God in the lives of our students and alumni whose lives are a living testimony to “His workmanship.”

Our commitment to the task before us has also struck me as I have met with so many families and staff who have offered their support for me and the school. But what has really come into focus is the ways in which God has prepared this incredible group of people, this community “His workmanship” for the task ahead. It will take all of us working together to grow the next generation of Christian leaders and I am confident we together can do it because if God is for us who can be against us.

If you are a parent struggling with the decision of placing your child in our school because of the cost let me encourage you, it is the best investment that you will ever make. I made that same decision with my children some 30 years ago and I have never regretted it! The culture of the secular world will consume your children, it is not worth the money you save.
