Roy Edwardsen

Roy F. Edwardsen Hope Falls, NYRoy F. Edwardsen, 65, passed away June 7, 2014; the world lost one of the great ones. Roy was born in Schenectady in 1949 to Fritz and Margaret Edwardsen. He was a 1966 graduate of Linton High School. Roy enlisted in the US Navy during Vietnam and served aboard the USS America as an aviation electrician. Following his military service, Roy returned to Schenectady where he became a police officer. After 23 years of faithful service to the city, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by retiring and moving to the town of Hope in the Adirondacks with his wife, Mary, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, gardening and anything else related to the outdoors. He continued to serve the people as a volunteer fireman, search and rescue volunteer, and town historian. He was proud of his military service, and held all veterans in the highest regard, and with the greatest respect. He was an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders, and participated in the Honor Flight Program where he escorted several WWII veterans to the National Memorials in Washington DC. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling with Mary, and spending time with his friends and family, whom he loved above all else, especially his grandchildren. Roy was a helper and friend to all who knew him, and many times, even to those that did not. He will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his father, Fritz and his wife, Kristine. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his mother, Margaret; his daughters, Dawn Edwardsen of Schenectady, Melissa (Patrick) McLaughlin of Glenville, and stepdaughter, Brooke (Brian) Pierotti of Scotia; and his son, Jeffrey (Tricia) Edwardsen of Niskayuna. Roy leaves his sister, Evelyn (Michael) Brown of Florida as well as seven cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. -

From an article about Roy

"My name is Roy Edwardsen, from Northville N.Y. and I am a Viet Nam Vet U.S. Navy. In 1972 I purchased a POW bracelet and have worn it for 37 years. I contacted the family of my POW many years ago and they sent me a photo of him. The POW is Elton Lawrence Perrine, USAF, date of loss 5-22-67, dob 1-6-35, location Nam Dinh North Viet Nam. Yesterday I received notification from his brother that Elton Perrine's remains had been located and identified through DNA, there will be a memorial service at Arlington May 24, 10. I can't describe the feeling, after 37 years of looking at my bracelet never having had it off that the day has come. I would imagine you can verify this information through your contacts. Then you can update his status. Never give up I swore I would wear the bracelet until he came home and I did."
