My fifth book of poetry is due out in spring 2016. It's what I do; it is a joy and sometimes it is very, very hard. In I began adopting retired racing greyhounds in 1993 and have lived with these beautiful animals ever since. I'm now on my seventh. I guess that qualifies me as a crazy dog lady. I am still a serious pianist. Who gives a damn about carpal tunnel and tendinitis!

I was so excited to read on your profile that you are a published poet. I rushed out to The Open Door to order one of your books. Yesterday, I couldn't wait to get home to begin reading "Our Vanishing" so I read a little bit at every red light. Would I be able to find traces of the young girl I used to know in this book?

As children, I knew you could see the beauty in the rain. I knew that you grew up in a house full of music just like I did, and I knew that music could fill the soul just like a mother's milk could fill her babies tummy. As I read, I realized that your music had become nature, just like mine had. I saw that we had taken similar paths in our devotion to rescued animals, you with dogs and me with horses. But I was surprised to find out that your words had wings.

After reading your book I wanted to run with the horses and swim with the dolphins. I wanted to sing a prayer and dance a song. But most of all, I wanted to make one more dream come true before I go off into the golden sunset.

I am so saddened by Roy's death. He was one of the "good ones". I remember how friendly and humble he was, and how easily he laughed. It was a joy to see him at the reunion and find that he hadn't changed, save some gray hair and wisdom. My deepest condolences to his wife and family, and all those who were close to him.
