Bruce Osterhout

Bruce Charles Osterhout, 62, of Charlotte, North Carolina and previously of Niskayuna, New York, died unexpectedly from an aortic tear on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Carolina Medical Center. Bruce was born in Schenectady, New York on February 12, 1949, and was the son of Charles Everett Osterhout and Evelyn Mae George Osterhout. Bruce graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady in 1967, and went on to graduate from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY with a B.A. in economics in 1971. Bruce was married to Janet Lynn Hores Osterhout in 1971. He was a lifelong commercial loan officer for several banks in the Capital District area, including serving as a senior VP for Chase Manhattan Bank. He recently retired from M&F Bank, as city executive and senior VP, in Charlotte, NC. Bruce previously served as director of the Council of Community Services of Northeastern, New York, director of the Schenectady Division of the American Heart Association, past president of Kiwanis of North Greenbush, board member of Niskayuna Babe Ruth, member of the Mohawk Golf Club, Deacon of the Niskayuna Reformed Church, finance committee member of the Regional SYNOD of the Reformed Church and an active member of the Charlotte Habitat for Humanity and the Mt. Isle Harbor Homeowners Association. Bruce was an avid boater, swimmer, skier, golfer, woodworking enthusiast and landscaper. Most recently, he enjoyed spending more time with his two grandchildren in his brief retirement. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet of Charlotte, NC; loving son, Brian and his wife, Melanie of Ballston Spa, NY; beloved granddaughter, Sydney and grandson, Tyler, of whom he was very proud; sister, Carol Lynn Holmes and husband, Alan; and two nephews, Kevin (Jessica) Holmes of Niskayuna, NY and Gary (Amy and children, Maggie and Charlie) Holmes of Glenville, NY; sister-in-law, Karen Hores of New Milford, CT; and his loyal dog, Max. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Evelyn Osterhout and in-laws, Paul and Anna Hores; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
