If I remember correctly, Roy passed away in the late 1980's. The exact time I'm not sure and how I don't know also. He used to work at Paradise Valley Mall in the landscape crew. Even though his dad was CEO of the company that owned the mall.

I remember spending a lot of time with Roy senior year. He would drive the convertable to school and at lunch we would drive through all of the alleys around the neighborhood. I would be standing up in the passenger seat looking over the block walls for empty pools. As soon as we would find one we would go back to school and let everyone know. By 3:30 pm there would be a dozen of us skateboarding in that pool. One of my favorite high school memories...

I had a chance meeting with Roy when he sat in front of me at a Moody Blues concert at Desert Sky Pavilion. I had not seen him in years, and he gave me a big hug at the end of the show as we were saying goodbye. A week later I heard that he had died. I just dug up that ticket stub and the date was September 12, 1993. I feel very fortunate to have had that last chance to see him because we had quite a few laughs together in the Kiva days. I had forgotten about the nunchucks - that bring back some memories. Also it reminded me of the fireworks that we smuggled back from Nogales after a junior year trip with the Spanish class - he must have had 1000 Black Cats stuffed down his trousers!

Roy was the one who tagged me at Kiva with, "Refer to Reiffer for some reefer." Not that I had a clue at the time. Definitely a character...

I went to prom with Roy our junior year. He was a sweet boy. He's interred in the same mausoleum as my grandparents, so do I visit him from time to time. So very sad.

Roy never forgot that I broke his collar bone when we were at Kiva. I'm pretty sure he forgave me though, because he'd always slump that shoulder when we would run into each other. God bless his family for their loss of a pretty cool kid.
