Sadly, I was recently notified of Elgin Waiter's passing.  Below is a copy of his obituary that was published in the Scranton Times on Friday, December 17, 2010:

"Elgin C. Waiters Sr., 38, of Scranton, died Tuesday morning in the Moses Taylor Hospital Intensive Care Unit after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Scranton, son of Jimmy and Jewel Waiters, Florida, and the late Rachel F. Barrett, who died Sept. 16. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1991 and a volunteer for the Friends of the Poor.

Elgin enjoyed using his computer and watching sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

He spent a great deal of time with his friends and family, was well-known in his community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are four children, Elgin Waiters Jr., Taryn Waiters, Brett Townsend and Brittany Townsend, and their mother, Donna, all of Scranton; his brothers and sisters, Alphonso Barrett and wife, Carla; Dorethea Miller and husband, Emanuel; Marlynn Barrett and companion, Marvin McCloe Sr.; Nita Barrett; Racquel Burgess and husband, Tyree; and Chad Waiters, all of Scranton; and Montray Waiters, Florida; two special friends, Jim Bradley and Tanya Triolo; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Saturday, from 3 to 5 p.m.

 elgin was a great person and loved by many you will be in our hearts forever
