Gwen was a great person! She was our colorguard captain/leader in the High School Band under the direction of Mr. Bob Crenshaw. We weren't the best students to try to lead but Gwen was a real champion and always triumphed in the end (1-2-3-4-5 Colorguard girls, you know what I'm talking about). We enjoyed many high school football games, band trips, summer band camps, colorguard band camps, high school band competitions and a trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL under Gwen's innovative leadership.

We loved her and she knew we loved her although we were a little difficult. Students can be a trip when asked to follow the leadership of other students. The girls from the guard, I'm sure, can attest to what I am saying.

Apart from school, Gwen was a talented vocalist in the religious community. She and her family sang and brought many blessings to many church congregations.

The last song that I remember Gwen singing which was like a theme song for her: "Bruised But Not Broken". She sang this song throughout her illness and bout with the enemy called cancer.

We miss you Gwen but we rejoice in knowing that you are around the Father's throne and we will see you when we get there.

Your Sister in Christ,

Sandra Grant Sloan

Gwen was truly a child of God and he blessed us all with her beautiful voice. While it is sad that she is gone, I know she is happier than all of us now.

Gwen was a good and faithful friend, always sweet and smiling. During my year as drum major she was always so helpful and encouraging during those long hot practices.
