Alan grew up in Fairview, our little community between Seneca and Walhalla. He drove our school bus in high school. I remember him as always being such a kind person. He was never cruel or hateful as some guys can be while growing up. I am so sorry his children and wife don't have him here with them but I am sure they take comfort in knowing where his is and that they will be with him again someday.
Here goes my memory: He had a surgical procedure here at Greenville Memorial where I work. I went over to say hello and see if there was anything I could do for him. He was cheerful even when he was ill. He said no he was doing OK and asked about another patient who was complaining loudly in the Recovery Room. He said something like " I quess you are going to have to knock him out so we can have a little peace and quite here" and kinda chuckled. I asked if he was ready for his family to come back and get ready to go home. He said yes, and to please go get his wife. He added that I would know who she was because she would be the prettiest woman in the waiting area. She was a very pretty woman and I thought she was the luckiest woman there to have such a wonderful husband.
I hope his family is doing well and have many fond memories of Alan. Telesa McMahn Weeks

Thanks Telesa, for your kind words about my big brother, Alan. He was a prince among men, even during his illness. Thanks for taking good care of Alan when you had the opportunity. He was very glad to see you there.

Our old days on Bus #18 are some of my fondest memories ... all the Fairview kids and Keowee kids growing up. There is still a sweet bond, isn't there?

Alan will always be my hero ... just like an older brother should be. I'll be sure to pass along your sweet thoughts to Melinda and the kids.
