I knew Matt for a very long time. He was a natural comedian that always made his friends laugh. However, he was also the best friend I've ever had. We stayed in touch throughout the years but rarely met due to overseas assignments. My last visit was shortly before his death. He was just shy of 40 with thick black wavy hair and no sign of the acne that had plagued him during his youth. As always, Matt had me ROTFL as we discussed the old days and current events. I missed his funeral, so here is my "trilogy" (an inside joke from shop class). "Matt, I miss you deeply. You deserved much more in life than you received. Thank you for allowing me into your life as your friendship has made me a better man. I know what you're thinking my friend, so don’t worry, I promise my memories of you will forever be filled with joy, not sadness. I just needed to take this opportunity to say goodbye."
